Conversations: Comfy and Cozy in the Zone

Dear Chris,

I’ve often heard people say that the thing you want most is outside your comfort zone.

Well, I like being comfortable! But I also want more in my life…

Was there ever a time that you purposely pushed yourself out of your comfort zone? Did it get you what you wanted?

Signed, Comfy and Cozy in the Zone

Hey now Comfy and Cozy,

Let’s get in the zone, together.

It is true that to achieve MORE, you have to do MORE which indeed can take you out of your comfort zone.

However, here’s the thing some will fail to tell you. You can CHOOSE the way to get out of your comfort zone…

Let me give you an example.

When I worked with a coach to get my coaching/consulting business going, he often said I must do sales calls. He said I’d have to speak with 100 people to get 10 sales and the more I do it the easier it will be.

Well I didn’t find it easy, comfortable or something I was willing to do. But I had to make money in my business, right?

One of the strategies I dreaded, but far less than 100 sales calls, was “speaking.” I had done some in my corporate career but this was different. It was like “selling” from the stage.

I also had a little stage fright going as well. So I decided I had to make a choice.

Either I got really good at the sales call thing or the speaking thing. I realized that I could speak in front of a 100 people at one time and hit that sales target much more easily.

So I chose to get out of my comfort zone and get really good at speaking as my sales method.

I have to say, once I figured out how to master my nerves, I was off and running!

While my coach’s way was what he thought would achieve better results, my way, my choice, outside my comfort zone achieved greater results.

Why?

Two reasons.

I could reach more people in less time and the skill of speaking persuasively works in so many aspects in your life and career. Bonus!

So my friend…stay comfy and cozy until what you want “pulls” you out of your comfort zone.

And then, and this is important, choose YOUR way to achieving the goal.

From this vantage point, you will find comfort and coziness in taking inspired action outside the zone.

You’ll also find a bonus hidden along the path that will serve you for a lifetime.

~ Fear nothing. Love everything.
