Conversations: Couch potato in the making

Hello Chris,

You know, I can just be a dynamo and get a ton of things done in a short amount of time. I often amaze myself at my focus and determination. But there are times, I’ll tell you, that I feel like the couch is calling my name and I have no choice but to silence it by giving in!

I wonder if you have some tips or tricks to get yourself going again when you’re just not feeling it?

Signed,

Couch potato in the making

Dear couch potato in the making,

Congratulations for finding your way to peace.

Not. Even. Kidding.

Have you ever heard the saying, “there’s a season for everything”?

You’ve found your season for being incredibly focused and productive.

You’ve now found your season for being rested and relaxed.

There is NOTHING wrong in this. We aren’t made to experience life on pure adrenaline. Witness how many athletes die of heart attacks, or resort to performance enhancing drugs because they are fighting their very nature.

So embrace your inner couch potato, my friend.

Now you want a tip or trick to get going again?

Here’s a couple of considerations…

One, don’t.

Because of your ability to focus when needed, you  must TRUST that when you “need” to feel it, it WILL kick in.

If I have a project to complete and i’m not feeling it, I let it go. When it’s time to get it done, somehow my spirit seems to jolt me into action. I just TRUST that it gets done.

If you reflect on the times when you’ve met your goals, when the “juice” was needed, you’ll know this to be true.

Two, consider that the thing that you THINK needs to get done ISN’T the thing that needs to get done. I know, sounds like I’m talking in circles, but you know how we create to do lists, laundry lists, etc. and how many items on the list REALLY need to be done.

So if you’re not feeling it, I invite you to create a new and exciting list of things you WANT to do. Once you get started on one item, watch what happens to your energy! You’ll be a dynamo on natural steroids because you’ll be rested and ready to tackle something fresh and inspiring.

That’s what I have for you, couch potato.

Go ahead, rock that couch and let it power you up for what’s ahead…brilliant success.
