Conversations: Floating downstream

Hey there Chris,

Got a question for you.

There are times I’m in a really great mood. Things are going REALLY well and I’m just loving life.

I hear a lot of talk about the power of positive thinking and that positive thoughts bring you more positive results. I’ve actually experienced it as well. So I believe in it.

But then there are times when I go down that path. You know, the negative thoughts start to pop in. And I can’t seem to stop the downward pull toward even more negative thoughts.

Then, I feel horrible about not staying in that positive stream of thoughts and become afraid of what’s coming that’s now negative.

Ugh… You see what I mean?

How do you protect your thoughts from negativity and stay in that stream of positive thinking?

Well now, floating downstream!

This is one of my favorite topics! It kinda goes back to an earlier post where I talked about how the movie, “The Secret” messed everybody up, including me.

The whole Power of Attraction thing invited people to just think good and positive thoughts to have good and positive things happen in their lives.

Listen, I know that when you think good and positive things, you “see” more good and positive in your environment.

And perhaps the same can be true on the negative side.

However, here’s what I wish we could ALL remember

(I often have this inner conversation with myself, so trust me you’re not alone!)

We’re meant to have EVERY emotion we have.

 

To deny ANY of them invites them to pull up a chair and put up their feet in our hearts, minds and soul.

You’ve likely heard the saying, “what you resist, persists” and that’s why you experience that downstream effect…you’re making it “bad” to experience it, which binds it to you.

Just allow it to be. 

You simply Be. 

Be. human. 

And then..allow it to move on.

It’s there for a reason. Try to find the “gift” in it.

There is ALWAYS one.

From there you’ll start to swing back into the positive, good feelings you’re reaching for.

As I’ve said, I experience heading in that negative territory and would try to pull up, like a plane in a nosedive. I’ve come to realize that it’s far better to dip my nose in the water and allow it to give me rest so that I can find the gift in this emotion.

It’s ALL a gift, Floating downstream.

If you look at your negativity as giving you some sort of gift, you’ll immediately begin to see it as a positive thing and draw even more from it.

It may be tough at first, but I want you to think about creating a mantra or affirmation to reach for when you head in the direction of the negativity. Something like…

“What’s the gift in this?”

Saying this, will free you up to release it and grow from its presence in your life.

WE are amazing humans and I can tell you that we’re meant to grow from each experience.

However, we can’t unless we allow the experience to grow us.

You got this, floating downstream!
