Conversations: Fed up

Hey Chris,

I’m having one of those days where I’m just feeling really fed up. I just wish there was a reset button I could push.

I need to give my life a complete overhaul.

Signed,

Fed up

Well, well Fed up…that button exists

Are you really willing to push it?

Here’s what I mean.

We often think our lives, especially when we get into a rut, need a refresh and a restart. However, we never really examine what “parts” of it are really giving us grief.

So, this will be the first place to start.

What is it about what’s happening in your life that makes you “fed up?”

Is it your work, your personal life, your health — mental or physical, your friends, your family, etc.?

There are things in your life, you really dig and those things you don’t want to change.

A FULL reset might wipe those out and that’s not what you want.

You want the experiences, the memories, the good stuff to remain.

Identify what pieces would benefit from a total refresh or overhaul.

There are days at work where I get fed up. I look around and say, “how in the world did these folks get to where they are? They want to do as little as possible for the greatest monetary benefit. Really?”

So I could say, hell, it’s time to go find a new position. And in some cases, that’s exactly what I did. But you can’t run away from yourself, right? So it was time for me to examine my own attitude and do an overhaul there.

I started by reminding myself that within less than 5 years, I will retire from this employer. I also remind myself that there is more to life than this work. I have this incredible opportunity to share my passion for self development via my blog and the book I will soon write.

THIS is far more important than the people who I’m “judging.” So my mantra has to be, “leave them to their life…and focus on my own.”

This is why, Fed up, you have to be specific about the areas you want to overhaul, otherwise you may end up changing something that was actually meant for your good.

Or conversely, you’ll change something that creates even more headaches for you.

Their aggravating me, reminded me of how good I actually have it! So it was good for me to examine/overhaul my own attitude, vs. my whole work life.

What is it, specifically, that you are fed up about?

How is your being fed up, going to be a gift for you, if you use it as a tool, vs. a problem?

And if you can’t seem to find it to be a tool…then what steps do you need to take to “push the button?”

  • Do you need to move?
  • Do YOU need to change?
  • Do you need to give up this one thing, no matter the good it could gift you?

Only you know…

However, be warned.

Push the button on the wrong thing, at the wrong time, and you could set yourself up or send yourself back to a place that you don’t want to be.

Some honest introspection can “fill” you with the best next steps and the focus to create the very best outcome, Fed up!

My best to you!
