Hey to you, goal achiever! Great question!
It’s actually THE BEST question to ask, because if you can’t get clear on the goal, you’ll either miss achieving an important goal or achieve a goal that didn’t matter.
The first question I always ask a client about their goal is…
What’s the true outcome you want to achieve?
When I worked with business owners, the answers were ALWAYS…
- I want more clients
- I want more money
- I want more social media followers
- I want better marketing
- I want more time to build my business
- I want to enjoy being an entrepreneur/business owner
Are you seeing what I’m seeing?
Some of these are at odds with one another.
And sometimes, through no fault of my client. Many entrepreneurs are “guided” to do MANY things in their business to reach more people and attract more clients and make more money.
Well, many fail because if this “guided” advice.
Why?
Easy…no clarity on the TRUE goal.
I’ll give you an example from my own business building experience…because I failed miserably at this as well.
I focused on the more clients, more money, more social media followers, better marketing, etc. approach and would spin my wheels.
I’d fall into bed every night asking myself…what am I missing? I work so hard, do so many of the same steps as my coach and nada is happening!
Well, it’s because the goal was not one that I could pursue with gusto. It was LOTS of goals to pursue ALL AT THE SAME TIME.
No wonder I “fell” into bed each night. And no wonder I failed.
Now, failure is NOT a bad thing.
Not learning the lesson and getting back up…IS.
So, goal achiever, when I focused on what I really wanted…to make a bigger impact, so that I would attract the clients, money, etc. the freaking world changed for me.
I knew, that how I made a bigger impact was to speak. I’m one of the few entrepreneurs who really enjoys getting in front of an audience and sharing anything I can, to help them see their greatness.
You know what happened don’t you, goal achiever?
Yeah, the floodgates opened.
More clients, money, opportunities…and even the ability to climb into bed instead of falling in…smile
I hope you see that getting clear on the TRUE goal is critical. It’s the difference between spinning around in your life vs. enjoying your life.
Here’s a few questions you can ask yourself to begin to get clearer about the true goal.
If I were honest with myself, what would I say I REALLY want?
If I knew what I REALLY wanted, what would I do to get it?
Once I got it, how would that make me feel?
I wasn’t honest with myself because I allowed coaches and peers to tell ME what I wanted. What I did to get that was to do what they did…which never works…I wasn’t them. And since I never got it…I felt horrible.
When I got honest and said I want to make a bigger impact, I knew I had to stop doing all the time wasters and focus on getting in front of people to speak, period.
When I did that and things turned around it made me feel unstoppable!
I hope this helps goal achiever.
Just be honest with yourself about what you want, what you would do to get it and how it will make you feel.
Then, look out…GOAL ACHIEVED! whoo hoo! 🙂
