Conversations: Ready to stop

Hi Chris,

When I think about what I would love to stop doing… It includes:

Over thinking, worrying, feeling like a failure and to finally have more self esteem.

How can I?

Signed,

Ready to stop

~~~~~~~~~~
So you’re ready to stop?
I salute you for taking this first step toward acknowledging what’s getting in your way.
First, let me make you feel “normal,” because these are all feelings each of us can feel, at any given point in our lives.
Second, let me remind you, that you have within you the power to “stop” by simply…remembering.
You see, ready to stop, we often forget that we’ve been in a place where we overthink something and then moved beyond it.
I’m reminded of the holidays. We think and overthink about:
  • what we’re going to  get someone as a gift
  • what we’re going to be doing and when
  • how we’re going to enjoy it (or not)
And then, boom, it’s January…
Or, remember when you’ve tried something like a new dish and it wasn’t quite what you intended? You followed the instructions and may have felt super confident in adding that “special” spice you thought would rock it, and…
Darn…so close.
So what do these two situations tell you?
  • That they are not as bad as we make them out to be.
  • That we recover from them, eventually.
  • That it’s just part of how we learn to “be” in the world.
You know what this, ultimately, does for you? It gives you the confidence to know that it’s ok to overthink, it’s ok to fail, because the gifts in each will give you resilience in your life.
THAT is the way to build your self esteem.
Just in remembering…
Knowing that this too shall pass and there is a gift in everything, so I’m just not gonna sweat it.
Believe me, I know easier said than done.
But only in the moment.
When you “remember” what you’ve already done, survived and achieved it will turn on that ole self esteem power.
Ready to stop?
Just remember…
