Conversations: Yawn, still there?

Hi Chris,

I need some advice or courses that can help me.

I have no motivation. I want to start working out and eating better but now is not the right time because I have a lot going on.

I am stressed and overwhelmed already with my work and personal calendar.

I am also struggling to sleep and have no extra energy.

Signed,

Yawn, still there?

Ironically, yawn, you’re motivated enough to think of what would help you…working out, eating better, and to reach out to me (thank you!).

Here’s the thing I think you’re missing out on…

Working out and eating better would reduce the stress and overwhelm you’re feeling, and of course lead to better sleep and more energy.

It’s actually not a matter of motivation.

It’s really a matter of self-worth.

If you value yourself, then whatever is getting in your way, you’d get out of the way, immediately. It can take the form of scheduling in time to work out. This could be 30 minutes three times a week.

It could be taking a walk around the office building or your block to clear your head and get in some exercise. It doesn’t take much, to start. When it starts to kick in and you feel better you will “want” that experience to last longer and over more days.

I know from experience. During the Covid-19 lockdown, I worked from home and ate whatever I wanted. Fast forward 16 pounds later! I knew this was nuts! I’ve been good about my health, exercising and eating well most of my life. So it really bothered me.

I started small with some walk videos and 15 minutes a day. Since I was at home, weather, traffic, etc. were not an excuse. I purchased a Fitbit during a sale on their website and I was off the races.

Then the cardio started to feel good after a couple of months, so I included strength training. Next I found a book on anti-inflammatory foods and my energy, weight and motivation took off from there.

Start small, celebrate small wins and love whatever progress you make. You will look up before you know it and wonder why you hadn’t done it sooner.

You. Are. So. Freaking. Worth. It.

And that’s really all the motivation you need.
