Tell me Chris, what is the difference between a vision and a goal; and is it valuable to know and use both?

Where’s the true value?
~~~~~~~~~~
Hey where’s the true value!
Let me give you an analogy…
A vision vs a goal is like being “farsighted” vs “nearsighted”. One is farther out and the other closer in.
So having described the difference, let’s talk about the value of each and whether they “serve” one another.
A vision is both inspirational and aspirational.
It inspires you to move forward when you’re not sure what’s next. It inspires you to see the end result and not just the next step. It inspires to be be bigger than who you “think” you are and accomplish far more than you think you can.
It’s aspirational because it allows you to dream. A vision is your imagining of what’s possible without the “steps” getting in the way. It’s aspirational because it’s outside your current reality. It’s aspirational because it invites you to think big and dream bigger.
A goal, by comparison, is far shorter and more defined.
It can be thought of as, here’s where I want to be in the next 10 days. A goal has measurable steps, targets or actions associated with it. It’s a more tangible “thing” than a vision, which can be as big as you want it to be. Goals are designed to be more “bite-sized” so that you can see progress toward achieving it.
How could they “serve” each other?
They “dance” together like Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. (If that’s a reference you’re unfamiliar with, where’s the true value, trust me, google them and prepare to be astounded with their dancing!)
Your vision will help you shape your goals. Goals should be created to help you achieve your vision.
They move and groove together. And when they don’t, you’ll know it because you’ll have stalled, procrastinated and otherwise loss you energy to reach your goal or vision.
The “true value” in a vision and a goal is in how they dance together to bring you what your heart most desires and delivers the results you want.
I hope that helps!
