How do you discover your career passion?
Signed,
Career excitement?
~~~~~~~~~~
Hey career excitement!
Easy.
What freaking lights you up, my friend?
- Is it coming in to the office and collaborating with your coworkers?
- Is it sharing the latest insights you’ve gained from a course or training?
- Is it that you’re ready for your next big promotion, career leap, or career upgrade?
I would suggest that you take some time to look at the career you currently have or are building.
Determine what excites you now.
Look at how you can grow that excitement by branching out.
And, above all, check in with your heart, mind and soul to see how it fits.
Let me give you an example from my own career path and what helped me find my passion!
Early on in my career, I was advised to learn how to make “small talk” with people. I thought “small talk” was really a waste of time. We should get down to the business at hand and not dilly dally.
Well, I learned that people want to know that you care about what they have to say…and they find that out by interacting with you outside of the “all business” discussions.
I wanted to get promoted so I knew I had to “learn” how to do this. And I did…a conversation at a time. Turns out, I enjoyed learning about people through “small talk” and would later use it successfully to achieve a bigger career.
When I managed people and led teams, I created better results for them and our company because they trusted me. When I launched my business, I decided “coaching” was the thing for me, because I like to learn about people and what got in the way of their success.
In my current position, I create strategies for my organization, successfully. How? I spend time learning about the people first and the work that contributes to the strategy, second.
So while it’s an aspect of my career, it is the KEY to my career success…and I can get downright excited about it!
Career excitement, to find your passion stop and recognize when and where you get juiced about some aspect of your career. Ask yourself:
- What would you actually do without being paid?
- What would you do all day, every day and it wouldn’t tire you out?
- What would you continue to do even after you retired, because you love it so much?
If you can answer these questions, you’re well on the way to discover YOUR career passion.
My best to you on this lifelong journey!
~ Let life love you!
