Conversations: Self loving

Tell me Chris,

How do you prioritize self-love daily? What activities recharge you?

Signed,

Self loving

Ah, self loving…the mere fact that you’re asking this question is a demonstration in self love.

I think we, most often, associate self love with an activity because we think we’re human “doings” not human “beings.”

Here’s what I mean by that.

Self love is about taking care of what’s nurturing, satisfying and fulfilling in your life.

That could be getting a good night’s sleep, engaging in meditation, reading books that enliven you, eating foods that nurture your mind, body and soul.

Finding a way to just “be” in the world is an “activity” of self love.

You asked, self loving, about activities that recharge me…and I’ll share a few. I share them, only in the hopes that it inspires you to create your own personal and unique ways forward.

I enjoy…

  • A daily 20+ minute, quiet meditation to start my day
  • Eating nutritious foods that I’ve planned for each week
  • Vigorous exercise, 4 days a week and walking 5000+ steps on the weekends
  • Reading for personal and professional development and enjoyment
  • Watching cooking shows and stand-up comedians
  • Getting enough sleep to rise at 5am each morning during the work week

There are certainly more “details” under each of these activities that support my “being” in the world, self loving, but it gives you a sense of how I like to take good care of my human being and show it love.

Now I ask YOU…

What ways of “being” in the world, that demonstrate the love you have for yourself?

  • Are you speaking kindly to yourself, about yourself?
  • Are you eating, sleeping and nurturing your precious heart, soul and mind daily?
  • Are you putting yourself first, so that you can help others in the way only you can?

I think, self loving, that we just need to be reminded of all the ways in which self love shows up in the world.

I hope this helps you to remember your unique ways…always.
