The Summit Framework™ isn’t about changing your personality or memorizing scripts.
It’s about learning to lead yourself in the moments that matter most.
Let’s talk about the first step in climbing to the Summit…
Self-defeating moments follow a pattern…
You hesitate.
You catch yourself breathing differently and the words are not flowing. You’re unsure what to do or say next.
You overthink.
The thoughts start to swirl around in your head and you’re not clear about what your next step should be.
You start telling yourself a story.
I’m not sure if this is too much or too little to say to the client. They aren’t listening to me anyway. I need to start over.
In the moment, it’s challenging to catch yourself in this pattern. So don’t beat yourself up about it. Everyone experiences it…whether in front of a client or in a conversation with your manager.
The key to spotting the pattern?
Awareness that you have one.
We ALL do.
It’s recognizing what’s happening in the moment, and shifting it, that makes the difference.
How, you ask, do you do it?
Simple…
Reflection.
You’ve been here before, you’ve experienced it…now, it’s time to capture and examine when and how it occurs.
The easiest way to do that is to grab a piece of paper or a journal (my favorite reflection tool!) and remember a time when this has happened before.
- What was happening?
- Where did you hesitate?
- Where did you overthink it?
- What story did you begin to tell yourself about it?
If you can “see” it in retrospect, you can expand your awareness when it happens again.
Most people don’t take the time to “reflect” on a past unpleasant experience, because they want to avoid it.
Big mistake.
It’s a lesson, nothing more.
However, top performers and successful people, like you, don’t miss it…they recognize it as it’s happening.
It’s a matter of building a deeper self-awareness.
Reflection gives you the gift you need.
The Summit Framework™ isn’t about changing your personality or memorizing scripts.
It’s about learning to lead yourself in the moments that matter most.
