The Summit Framework: Pause the Reaction

Even after you’ve become more self-aware and spotted your pattern, there remains a bit of a problem that keeps you from ascending the Summit.

The problem isn’t’ the thought.

The problem is what you do next.

Simple. (she said…)

Pause your reaction.

Just long enough to interrupt the pattern and allow yourself to “shift.”

You may say, how do I do this in the midst of an important conversation with a client, employee or manager?

Well, how do you pause long enough to avoid saying the “wrong” thing to a colleague, friend or partner?

  • You may take a deep breath.
  • You may step back.
  • You may shift your gaze away from them.

Just long enough to interrupt and regain control.

One method that may help is to create a calming word or phrase for yourself.

I’m a long-time meditator. I KNOW what it has done for my inner peace in tough experiences.  I’ve recently taken to focusing on the word, “grateful” when I sit in quiet meditation. It just reminds me that being “grateful” helps me see all there is in my life to be grateful for.

So when it gets “hairy” I breathe and think…grateful.

You don’t have to be a meditator (though any time you stare off into space, guess what YOU are doing? lol). The point is, create a word or phrase for yourself that creates calm and pause, so that you interrupt the pattern.

This is the moment that creates your true power.

Power to control the outcomes in your favor.

The Summit Framework™ isn’t about changing your personality or memorizing scripts.
It’s about learning to lead yourself in the moments that matter most.
